Novant Health is partnering with Seattle-based artificial intelligence firm KenSci Inc. to improve patient experience through the implementation of predictive systems.
The North Carolina-based health system is working to streamline its processes as patients move through its hospitals.
“Novant Health is excited to partner with KenSci to improve the patient experience at our facilities,” said Dr. Eric Eskioglu, executive vice president and chief medical officer for Novant Health.
KenSci originated out of the University of Washington Center for Data Science at UW Tacoma, and has offices in Seattle, Singapore and Hyderabad, India.
“By using KenSci’s artificial intelligence platform, Novant Health can effectively predict patient flows in the hospital, place patients in a bed in a timely manner and not only improve patient outcomes, but also patient satisfaction.”
The technology uses machine learning to take patient data from electronic medical records and predict length of stay and potential home care requirements based on social determinants of health prior to discharge.
“The implementation of KenSci’s AI-based system to streamline the patient’s care process is one of the many ways Novant Health is utilizing technology to ensure remarkable care for our patients,” said Angela Yochem, executive vice president and chief digital and technology officer at Novant Health.
Novant Health has placed a heightened emphasis on technology and AI this year, implementing this summer its Institute of Innovation and Artificial Intelligence.
The Institute is a consortium of doctors, legal advisors and financial planners, as well as other health system system leaders, rather than a physical building where research and development takes place. It is intended to quickly implement technology such as KenSci’s to optimize the health system’s care and improve patient experience.
